But there is something special about a V8 that revs to 8300 RPM. Took my S65B40 powered BMW for a nice long drive today.

Around town between 14 and 15.5, usually closer to 14. On the highway between 16 and 18 usually. It got 18 with the cruise set at 99 in 100 degree heat with the AC blasting. (I was on Texas Toll 130 with almost no other cars and a speed limit of 85) I got 20, once, think driving from corpus to Austin. I reset my trip odometer every fill up, so I actually know my real mileage, obviously within some tolerance.

You in San Antonio as well? I took US 281 S to I-410 W to I-10 N to FM3351 to TX 46 to FM 1863 to US281 S to home. It rained a little, but it was dry for most of the drive, wasn’t too bad.

Sorry it's Trail of Head Gaskets. I changed my screen name in some post the other day where people were complaining about long screen names. That's a good run the stretch the legs of the V8. I like taking 46 whenever I get a chance

Oh shit I didn’t realize it was you. 46 is a pretty good road, there are a couple of places to pass people, which is good cause most people do 5 under the limit and the M3 needs to stretch it’s legs. Also it was 46 to FM3009 to FM1863, still a good drive. I really like 1863 and it was almost completely empty. Rounded a corner on 3351 today and saw a cop sitting under a tree, looked at the radar detector, no signal and doing 9 over so I didn’t slam on the brakes, wanna pull me over for 9 over, go ahead. Took him a minute to flip his radar on, by that time I was coasting at 58. Dude lights me up with K band, and all I can think is who the hell still uses K band.

I actually don’t think I’ve ever gone down 1863, I’ll have to check it out. You’re right, people go slow on 46, but it is pretty scenic if you get a stretch to yourself. Someone on 46 had an old Lincoln Continental convertible with a for sale sign on it in their front yard recently. Were you outside of Bexar county when you saw the radar? Part of the 3351 between Boerne and 46 is in Kendall County - I wouldn’t be surprised if their Sheriff’s Dept is still using old hardware. Here are a few photos I snapped while stuck behind a slow-poke Mk IV Jetta on 46 in April. Was bug city that night.

As a side question, do you read Ken Rockwell’s site, or did you just find that in a Google search for S65? Photography has always been a sort-of minor hobby of mine and I read his site pretty regularly.

Not sure exactly where I was to be honest, probably not in Bexar though. It can be a scenic road, as long as I get to go through the twisties at a reasonable speed, otherwise I’m just pissed and just want to pass the car in front of me.
